In the United States, according to the CDC, 10 out of 100 teenage girls suffer from an eating disorder. This number is only expected to increase, because the rise of social media (recently indicated by the surgeon general as a "profound risk of harm") has exposed millions to hundreds or even thousands of photos each day of celebrities, fashion models, and influencers. This has led to the creation of an idealized beauty standard that is inherently unattainable. Not only that, but the rapidly changing nature of social media creates tons of beauty trends - creating even more insecurities amongst adolescents.
